Sometimes we search, we strive we drive ourselves bananas trying to find this elusive “God’s Will.” I know I have always found comfort in being taught God has a plan for my life and have been so driven not to miss the mark. Sometimes my envisioning of God’s will has been something akin to a piece of candy tied to a string and every time I reach for it it is pulled away and yet I strive on in faith because someday I will finally have this candy I so desire! One thing that has carried me since college days is a conversation I had with Rev. Danny Taylor in which he explained so simply that the will of God is not hard to find when we are honestly seeking it. Recently I have come to an understanding concerning God’s will that is nothing short of God’s grace in my life, and quite honestly a huge relief! It came when I was meditating on a certain scripture “In everything give thanks, FOR THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS CONCERNING YOU.” After many years of salvation, and many years of dedicating my life to finding His will for it, I finally realized His will for me was already laid out plainly in scripture. He has given me everything I need to know to do His will. Please do hear me out, how often are we searching for His will and not doing all the things He has said plainly to do in His word? We look and search so diligently all the while it is right in front of us. One example that comes to mind and it is one Christ Himself uses when He speaks of God as our Father. Can you imagine my daughter’s first day of school where she is meant to learn her ABC’s but she is worried about how she will get to school, who will pick her up from school, where the money will come from for the gas to and from school, crazy huh? Meanwhile I as a parent have all this covered and I simply want her to learn her ABC’s. If she spent all her time worrying about my responsibilities she could never focus on the lesson she was being taught. Seems so silly and yet I have seen people lose out with God all together in their efforts to find His will instead of simply finding Him. The truth is God does have a plan for your life and it is not His plan for you to figure that all out. It is His plan for you to obey His word. So study it, hide it in your heart, find out what He wants from you through obedience. Learn His voice and trust Him with His plan even if you don’t get all the details remember your the child and He is the Father and He can be trusted! See when we focus on the things He has already told us are His will for us, he then opens and closes doors, He then leads us on beside the still waters. We were never meant to worry or stress about finding this will. God does not have candy on a string that He is cruelly keeping out of your reach. There are many things He reveals plainly are His will and maybe someday if you were to master them all (sounds like then maybe you would be like enoch and God just take you on since you have “arrived") then you could worry about His plan for your life. Chances are His plan is not for you to be focusing on you at all. Obey His word so you can reach and give to others and stop worrying about finding God’s will. If you do this it will find you!
